LADIES CHEMISETTES Neck Sizes 15 to 18 inches
Laughing Moon Mercantile #203 Ladies Chemisettes
This pattern contains four different chemisettes and a separate pattern piece that can be used for a front ruffle or a neck ruff. Two of the chemisettes are front opening and two are back opening. View A is dated 1840s to 1860s. It is front opening and can be made plain or with one or two layers of neck trim and trim down the center front. View B is front opening and is dated depending on the collar. With no collar it is dated 1850s to the 1870s. With the large collar it is dated 1820s.  The small collar can date it from the 1850s to the 1890s. The folding collar can date it from 1800 to 1910. View C is back closing.  With the standing collar it can date from 1800 to 1820. The plain chemisette can be dated from 1800 to 1890. View D is back closing and has a low neckline for the 1830s. It should be noted that the chemisette dates listed here should not be considered hard and fast dates.  There are many instances of the different types worn in different years and even eras. It is also true the chemisettes were worn well into the 20th century as well, all the way from 1900 to the 1960s when they were called dickeys.
